St. John in the Wilderness is a Church of North India church dedicated to John the Baptist built in 1852, located near Dharamshala, India, on the way to McLeodGanj, at Forsyth Gunj. Set amidst deodar forest, and built in neo-Gothic architecture, the church is known for its Belgian stained-glass windows donated by Lady Elgin, wife of Lord Elgin. 
Though the church structure survived the 1905 Kangra earthquake, which killed close to 19,800 people, injured thousands in the Kangra area, and destroyed most buildings in Kangra, Mcleodganj and Dharamshala; its spire, Bell tower, was destroyed. Later, a new bell, cast in 1915 by Mears and Stainbank, was brought from England and installed outside in the compound of the church This magnificent church is built amid the picturesque valley of Mcleodganj and is located about 8 kms away from Dharamshala. The beautiful architecture of the church plus the enchanting Kangra valley with its green foliage surrounding it, leaves the visitors spellbound. Right beside the church, there lies a graveyard which was built to bury British residents who died in the devastating 1905 Kangra valley earthquake.

Losar is celebrated mostly in India, Nepal, Tibet, Sikkim, and Bhutan. It will be celebrated between 24 February and 26 February 2020. The festival came into existence much before Buddhism was celebrated as a gesture of thanks to the Gods. Initially celebrated mostly among farmers, 
Losar went on to become a predominantly Buddhist festival celebrating the commencement of the New Year. Their belief was the happiness of the Gods and spirits would ensure the wellbeing of the people in the New Year. Losar also involved gratitude for harvest, similar to Vaisakhi in India. As Buddhism seeped into Tibetan culture, celebrations of Losar also adopted a Buddhist tilt in the rites and customs. Pre-Buddhist Losar involved people igniting incense sticks to dedicate to the local Gods and spirits. During the festival, people celebrate by some ancient ceremonies which represent the struggle between good and evil. Lamas are chanting and passing fire torches through the crowds. People perform the dance of the deer and amusing battles between the king and his ministers, and so on, people are cheering for the coming new year by dancing, singing, and merrymaking.

The Kangra Fort was built by the royal Rajput family of Kangra State (the Katoch dynasty), 
The Kangra Fort is a majestic sample of architecture, which was constructed by the royal family of Kangra and dates back to around 4th Century B.C. which traces its origins to the ancient Trigarta Kingdom, mentioned in the Mahabharata epic. It is the largest fort in the Himalayas and probably the oldest dated fort in India. This ancient fort is located about 20 kilometres away from Dharamshala and houses a few temples that can be accessed by passing through seven gates. A major tourist attraction at the Kangra Fort is the magnificent view of the Manjhi and Banganga rivers from here.

Right next to the Fort is also the Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch Museum, which is run by the Royal Family of Kangra.

Bathu temples are also known as " Bathu ki ladi ". It is a group of temples in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh and located 80kms from district headquarters Dharamshala.. In early 1970’s, these temples were engulfed in Maharana Pratap Sagar, a reservoir created by Pong dam. The temples are accessible only during the months of May–June when the water level is low. These temples can be accessed by boat from Dhameta and Nagrota Surian and are approachable by road from Jawali. There are many popular hear says about the origin of Bathu temples among the locals. According to that, some native claims that temple was constructed by Pandavas while other stories claim that it was established by a local king. In the 1970’s, this spectacular unique complex of 8th century was submerged by the lake waters. Each year as the lake levels decline, the temples gradually appear at the edge of the fields. Before 1974, this cluster of unique temples would attract pilgrims throughout the year. It was in 1961 that the work of Pong dam was started. The work was completed in 1970. The level of dam water rises above 1410 ft to engulf the temple.

Dharamshala: Many parts of Kangra District were lashed by rains while Smart City Dharamshala/Mcleodganj received fresh snowfall on Sunday. 

The meteorological department has forecast more rains and snowfall in the state from December 19 to 21. 

The minimum temperature in Dharamshala 1.8 degrees Celsius, Palampur and Chamba was 2 degrees Celsius each and Kangra 4.6 degrees Celsius. The snowfall brought cheers on the faces of tourists and hoteliers alike. The videos above and below show scenes from Bhagsunag (Mcleodganj) Kangra district, blanketed in snow.
